Tenth National Pupil Premium Conference

Written by: Pete Henshaw | Published:

Two keynote presentations and 17 workshops covering topics ranging from the vocabulary gap and classroom practice to looked after children and CPD are on offer for delegates at Headteacher Update’s 10th National Pupil Premium and Ofsted Conference.

The popular bi-annual event will take place once again at Birmingham’s NEC on Friday, September 28.

We expect to have as many as 180 secondary and primary school colleagues with us on the day, and the event also offers excellent networking opportunities and an exhibition of services and providers.

There will be two keynote sessions on the day. The first is to be led by the Teacher Development Trust and will focus on the links between effective CPD practice and good Pupil Premium outcomes.

The second keynote, to be led by Graham Moore will focus on how we can create a Pupil Premium culture across our schools that results in motivated students and staff who are free to innovate in order to overcome barriers to learning. This second keynote will be followed up with two phase-specific workshops during the day when delegates will be able to speak with other successful schools – both teachers and students – about aspects of their Pupil Premium work.

Most of the 17 workshops will be led by schools, with others being led by experts in their fields. All workshop speakers have been asked to give delegates practical strategies and ideas to take back to their schools. The primary-relevant workshops include:

  • Supporting disadvantaged EAL students.
  • Motivating your Pupil Premium students
  • Using drama to unlock potential in disadvantaged children.
  • Supporting the most vulnerable Pupil Premium Plus children.
  • Identifying the needs of Pupil Premium & Pupil Premium Plus students.
  • Practical strategies to boost reading for pleasure and attainment.
  • Developing a Pupil Premium culture.
  • Closing the vocabulary gap in primary and early years’ education.
  • Understanding the complex needs of Pupil Premium children and their families.
  • Teaching, learning & assessment – changing your school culture.
