Thumbs up for our healthy tuck shop!

Year 5 are championing healthy eating at Torridon Junior School in Lewisham with their Healthy Tuck Shop, “Healthtastic”.

They open every day at morning break and provide hungry pupils with nutritious snacks and drinks, boosting their “5-a-day” intake and helping them lead a healthier lifestyle.

Pupils Profit provides enterprise training toolkits to enable key stage 2 children to set up their own business within school. It can be a healthy tuck shop or a stationery shop and the children plan and operate their enterprise with staff support (to keep an eye on things, but not to do it for them!).

Healthy Tuck Shop and Stationery Shop product ranges are available from Pupils Profit. The Tuck Shop range complies with the Children’s Food Trust guidelines and the Stationery Shop range includes an eco-friendly collection as well as products to improve handwriting and ranges that support topic-based learning.

“Children learn by being given the freedom to operate a simple business model – they relish taking on the responsibility and sense of achievement that comes with that,” explained founder Elizabeth Gimblett.

“Although they won’t realise it, they will be practising all STEMNET’s top 10 employability skills as they operate their business, with maths, team-working and taking initiative a large part of it.”
