This episode tackles Ofsted school inspections, offering practical advice, tips and anecdotes for primary schools – including on subject deep dives – to help you thrive when the inspectors come calling.

Two experienced headteachers offer a wealth of tips and ideas – big and small – including their tenets of best practice for handling Ofsted from start to finish.

We tackle Ofsted subject deep dives, explaining what they are, how they are working in practice, and how schools can best prepare for them without adding to workload, including practical tips for subject and middle leaders.

We discuss building resilience, handling the emotions and pressure as a school leader, and tactics to help you when things are going wrong.

Other advice covers the 90-minute phone call, things you can prepare in advance, how to support our colleagues, how to protect staff wellbeing, and some top useful tips and anecdotes.

This episode is hosted by Helen Frostick, a National Leader of Education and semi-retired primary school headteacher and our guests are:

  • Paul K Ainsworth has held director of school improvement roles in four multi-academy trusts and currently works with Infinity Academies Trust in Lincolnshire. He has supported leaders of small rural secondary schools to large 11 to 18 urban ones, working intensively with those in Ofsted categories. He is the author of No Silver Bullets: Day-in, day-out school improvement and a TEDx speaker. Read his previous articles for Headteacher Update via http://bit.ly/htu-ainsworth
  • Julie Norman is the executive primary lead at the Quantock Education Trust in Somerset and MD of School Omega Solutions. Read her previous articles for Headteacher Update via http://bit.ly/htu-norman

What a great podcast!
As a headteacher of two small primary schools, sometimes the role does feel quite isolating and the fear of Ofsted looms at double pace. The advice given has enabled me to view inspection with a much more measured approach and some great tips were offered.
Is there any way of getting hold of Julie Norman's list of evidence?

Many thanks
