Coronavirus: Mental health support on offer for teachers

A number of resources have been published to help safeguard the wellbeing and mental health of school staff who are on the front line of the coronavirus response.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland is collating and creating resources that teachers may find helpful to manage their wellbeing “in these most difficult of circumstances”. This includes webinars and input from various experts.

In a statement responding to the coronavirus outbreak, the GTCS said: “In the current circumstances, teachers are working at pace to develop new learning and teaching environments and may well be working alone and/or managing specific family circumstances. It is important that throughout this time all education professionals care for their mental health and wellbeing.”

UK charity Education Support, meanwhile, has reminded teachers about its wellbeing services, including its free, confidential helpline and its financial grants service.
