Football-inspired literacy & numeracy

Using the famous Panini football stickers as inspiration, a series of “Stick with Maths” resources has been launched by the Premier League.

Free to download from the Premier League Primary Stars website, they use player data on the Panini stickers to create maths activities.

For year 3 and 4 pupils, activities include mental addition, place values, multiples, squares and primes. For year 5 and 6 pupils, there are problem-solving tasks as well as activities focused on converting units of measurement and making connections between percentages, fractions and decimals.

Teaching resources include films featuring mathematician, teacher and writer Bobby Seagull and West Ham mascot Hammerhead (pictured), puzzles on PowerPoint, worksheets and homework tasks.

Meanwhile, pupils aged five to 11 in England and Wales still have time to enter the Premier League Writing Stars competition. This year’s theme is “ambition” and the challenge is to write about the importance of self-belief and dreaming big. There is a free pack of resources for teachers. All original work must be submitted by Friday, March 20.
