Burnside Primary School in Northumberland is better prepared for Ofsted after becoming one of the first to invest in new online improvement planning software.

The Cramlington school is ready for future inspections after investing in “intelligent” software from Mesma, which ensures the head and support staff have all relevant information to hand when the inspectors call.

Headteacher Jane Ramsay said: “To give ourselves a head start to being ready for inspections, which take place at very short notice, we have introduced Mesma’s improvement planning software across the school.

“Mesma is an adaptable, versatile and cost-effective web-based resource, which enables us to set-up our own accounts and allocate important areas of the self-assessment report and improvement plan to authorised people within the school.

“It is a key strategic tool that has allowed us to create a central resource of information for governors, minutes of meetings, research, recommended reading, and school performance data that can be accessed at any time from a simple-to-use, secure platform.”

Using the Mesma online tool has proven particularly beneficial for the board of governors, giving them immediate access to key information required to fulfil their duties in overseeing the strategic direction and performance of the school.

Ms Ramsay added: “The use of cutting-edge technology in Mesma gives us an advantage, providing an added value management resource which enables us to have to hand all the up-to-date information required for Ofsted at the press of a button.”

Mesma was set-up in response to changes implemented by education watchdog Ofsted, which led to schools, colleges and independent providers receiving reduced notice of inspection.

It is owned and operated by three directors – Neil Donkin, Carole Loader and Louise Doyle – who between them have more than 30 years’ experience in business and working with the education sector.
