The NFER and Headteacher Update Research Insights articles offer a wealth of evidence-based, best practice and advice covering a range of whole-school and classroom issues.

The latest article, published in March 2018, looks at the NFER's on-going research into teacher recruitment and retention issues, including the factors that lead teachers to leave or stay in the profession.

Other topics featured in this free PDF include:
  • The use of research in schools and the factors that make teachers' research engagement effective.
  • The impact that after-school coding clubs can have on pupils' learning, teaching in schools and other vital areas.
  • Forthcoming OECD research in England into early learning experiences and their connections with pupil wellbeing.
  • How schools can develop their own bespoke approaches to pupil assessment and a new free resource to support school leaders in reviewing and reshaping primary school assessment.
  • A look at the emerging role of executive headteacher. What are the duties and skills of the growing number of executive headteachers and the strategic purpose of this role?
  • A focus on two international comparison reports analysing science and maths performance in England and Northern Ireland at primary level – and the lessons we can learn from these studies.
