Webinar: Supporting children affected by trauma and abuse

It is being hosted by the Anna Freud Centre, a mental health and wellbeing charity, and is aimed at early years professionals.

When the Anne Freud Centre surveyed early years staff last year, 69 per cent said they had experienced working with children affected by trauma or abuse, and 71 per cent said they had worked with children affected by domestic violence.

Speakers will include Louise Jackson, deputy headteacher at St Lawrence’s Primary School and Nursery in Shropshire. At her settings, Ms Jackson has experienced working with children who have been affected by trauma or abuse.

She explained: “Early years staff need to be fully informed about the ways they can help young children in their setting who have encountered abuse or trauma – so that they can help them to recover and reconnect with those around them. Knowing the right things to do, and what to say, early on in a child’s life could change the way that child experiences the world in the future.”
