It is open to all primary school pupils in the UK and 12 winning designs will be available to buy as printed or digital cards from December 1, with the overall winning pupil/s receiving a stocking full of books and a virtual visit to their school from Mr Adeola.
The proceeds from the sale of the cards will support the NLT’s work to improve the literacy, learning and wellbeing of children most affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.
Entries to the competition are to be judged by Mr Adeola, co-creator of best-selling children’s book Look Up! (Puffin) and a supporter of the NLT.
The challenge is free to enter for all children aged five to 11 and designs should have a “joyful and festive theme” and be on A5 sized paper. They can be scanned and submitted by schools and parents.
Mr Adeola said: “I’m looking for drawings of things that make you smile from ear to ear and that will be sure to raise everyone’s spirits. I can’t wait to see the festive stories that the children tell through their designs.”
The NLT is a national charity which offers resources, research, best practice and CPD to support schools’ literacy provision.
