The 12th National Pupil Premium Conference will offer a range of advice and best practice for schools when it takes place on Friday, September 20.

The event at Birmingham’s NEC, organised by Headteacher Update and SecEd, will offer 16 predominantly school-led workshops – all focused on offering practically useful advice for primary and secondary schools.

The opening keynote will be delivered by Owen Carter from ImpactEd – a not-for-profit initiative aimed at closing what it calls the “evaluation deficit” in schools.

Entitled “What difference does it make? Evaluating the impact of your Pupil Premium work, the keynote will offer a range of strategies and structures to help ensure that effective evaluation is at the heart of your Pupil Premium work.

The day will then offer delegates a choice of 15 workshops – primary, secondary and cross-phase – focused on in-school practice, case studies, specific initiatives and other innovations. These are:

  • Wraparound community and parental engagement that boosts Pupil Premium outcomes (primary).
  • Building learning skills: Metacognition, resilience and perseverance (primary).
  • Supporting Pupil Premium pupils with SEN: Developing a whole-year Pupil Premium strategy (primary).
  • Attachment, trauma and self-regulation (primary).
  • Closing the gap and beyond: How an inner-city school achieves incredible outcomes for Pupil Premium students (primary).
  • Transforming behaviour by empowering students with self-management skills (primary).
  • Practical advice for supporting vulnerable and looked after children (cross-phase).
  • Supporting the social, emotional and mental health needs of Pupil Premium children (cross-phase).
  • Turning a desired Pupil Premium culture into a whole-school strategy (secondary).
  • Changing the Pupil Premium culture in a school and restorative practice (secondary).
  • A range of successful and adaptable Pupil Premium initiatives (secondary).
  • Raising aspirations for students living in areas of severe poverty (secondary).
  • Behaviour management and the Pupil Premium (secondary).
  • Cultural capital, enrichment and character in an area of hidden poverty (secondary).
  • Mind the Gap: Practical classroom strategies for addressing gaps in knowledge (secondary).

The event also features a Pupil Premium exhibition as well as networking time for delegates. Early bird booking is available until July 19 at the reduced rate of £269. After July 19 the price is £299.
