Summer water safety warning: New resources

As summer approaches and Covid restrictions look set to ease, a campaign has launched to remind young people of the importance of water safety.

Accidental drownings kill more than 400 UK and Irish citizens every year and it is feared that the pandemic lockdowns will have left a dramatic gap in school swimming and water safety education.

As such, and with summer fast-approaching, UK charity RLSS UK has published resources to help schools give children the skills they need to be safe when swimming and playing in water.

The free learning materials offer teaching ideas to help engage young people with essential, life-saving water safety lessons in class.

It comes in the build-up to the charity’s annual Drowning Prevention Week campaign, which runs from June 19 to 26 this year.
