Anti-Bullying Week: LGBT+ assembly resources

To mark this year’s Anti-Bullying Week, resources have been made available to help schools host LGBT+ inclusive assemblies.

Published by LGBT+ inclusive education charity Just Like Us, the resources are to help staff deliver assemblies designed for pupils who might not yet have much knowledge of LGBT+ topics.

Anti-Bullying Week takes place from November 15 to 19 and the new resources come after its research showed that 91 per cent of LGBT+ pupils hear hateful language.

Furthermore, LGBT+ secondary pupils are twice as likely to have been bullied in the past year (43 per cent compared to 21 per cent of their non-LGBT+ peers) and a third (33 per cent) say there is no clear process for reporting anti-LGBT+ bullying at their school.

Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people's charity, helps primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across the UK become happier, safer and more welcoming places for pupils who may be or have families that are LGBT+.

Just Like Us also runs an annual Diversity Week celebration, which is due to take place next on June 20 to 24.
