Aside from the explicit use of numbers, we unconsciously use our capacity for mathematics on a daily basis. For example, judging an angle to walk through a door, estimating the flight and trajectory of an object we are trying to catch, or estimating the time it will take to arrive at a location.
However, I am extremely wary of the idea that some of us are born with exceptional mathematical abilities and favour an approach which acknowledges that success in learning is obtained from a combination of access to high-quality teaching, the determination to practice, and the resilience to learn from our errors.
