Organised by Sustrans, the walking and cycling charity, and supported by the Bikeability Trust, the week is intended to celebrate cycling and the benefits of travelling actively for children.
Department for Transport figures show that only two per cent of primary school children in England currently travel to school by cycling.
There are resources available, including posters, a five-day pack of in-class activities, and a video guide with simple bike safety practices. The Bikeability Trust is also running a story competition inviting pupils to write about their rides to and from school.
