Mental health: Barnardo’s hub offers resources for teachers

Teachers who are supporting pupils with mental health and wellbeing difficulties can access help via a new website.

Launched by charity Barnardo’s, the site is aimed at teachers, lecturers and staff working in the education sector.

Its aim is to be a “one-stop-shop” where educators can go for trauma-informed resources, support and advice about how to help children and young people cope with any issues they are experiencing.

The website specifically offers support on issues relating to loss, grief, bereavement and trauma in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the same time, there is a selection of resources for education professionals themselves, with a focus on both their wellbeing and that of their department and colleagues.

The Barnardo’s Education Community (BEC), as the website is called, has been created with funding from the Westminster Foundation. Other features include a “community of practice” where visitors can take part in facilitated and peer-led discussions about current and emerging topics. BEC also includes free access to video, webinar and audio training on the resources.
