Service children: Free online wellbeing workshops

Primary schools seeking to support the children of service families can access a free online wellbeing workshop.

Little Troopers has uploaded the two-hour workshop, which is part of the charity’s school programme. It’s the second workshop to be made available to view for free.

Delivered as if it were live, the workshops engage with pupils and use games, drawing and other activities to explore what it is like to grow up with a parent in the British Armed Forces. Topics include having a parent deployed or moving home and school.

Schools can download accompanying worksheets and facilitator notes and those delivering the workshop before Christmas can register to receive a free Little Troopers X-Ray of Feelings poster.

Julie Howlett, inclusion lead at St Michael’s Primary School in Colchester, said: "It was really important for our service pupils to be able to join in with the workshop, not only for them all to get together and recognise they aren't on their own but to learn that it is okay to experience different feelings when going through transitions such as moving into new homes and starting new schools. They all engaged with the activities and opened up about some of the experiences they have had at such a young age.”
