Bite into Writing: Year 6 resource

Written by: Pete Henshaw | Published:

Bite into Writing, a resource supporting year 6 teachers with the teaching and assessment of writing, has been launched by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER).

Suitable for remote or in-class learning, whole class discussions or small guided groups, Bite into Writing aims to offer a non-prescriptive teaching framework.

Based on a published text – When We Were Warriors by Emma Carroll – it encourages pupils to develop a broad range of written material. The first book in the series of teaching resources is available now, priced £45.

The resource includes “talk and explore” activities to stimulate discussion, “write-bites” to promote short-burst, incidental writing, “spotlight texts” with helpful teaching prompts to support grammar and punctuation, text structure, vocabulary and the writer’s voice, and a choice of showcase writing opportunities that encourage pupils to build a collection of their own writing across a range of genres.
