Teach Handball Hub: Resources for lessons and after-school clubs

A new handball hub is offering schools free resources in the hope of inspiring children to take-up the sport.

Teach Handball Hub has been set-up as a “one-stop-shop” for PE teachers, offering advice about equipment and rules as well as FAQs and training opportunities.

It has been created by England Handball and offers support for both primary and secondary schools with age and stage-appropriate resources for PE lessons and after-school clubs.

The sport is considered a good fit for primary schools as it requires very little equipment and can be played in many different settings.

There is also a competition to celebrate the launch of the website, with £350 in handball equipment on offer. Every school teacher that registers on the portal before midnight on February 28 will have the chance to win the FORZA Primary School Handball Introduction Pack from Net World Sports for their school, which includes two handball goals, 12 balls and carry bags.

Stacey Andrews, national partnership manager at England Handball, said: “Handball continues to be one of the fastest growing indoor sports in England. It’s fast-paced, high scoring and energetic, making it a game that children of all ages love to play, which is one reason why teaching handball is becoming ever more popular. It’s perfect for primary schools as it can be played across so many different settings, from playgrounds to small gym halls, and very little equipment is needed.”

Alongside the resources, teachers will also be able to find opportunities on the hub to sign up on specific CPD, both online and face-to-face. As part of the course offer, teachers will be able to develop their refereeing/officiating skills and further their knowledge on how to introduce the game.
