A strong relationship between headteachers and school improvement partners (SIPs) is necessary for driving school improvement and ensuring consistency and high standards across multi-academy trusts (MATs).

In Cornwall, the Rainbow MAT exemplifies this with a commitment to a collaborative approach, aiming to align school-level goals with trust-wide objectives.

In this article, we would like to describe how St Mary’s CE Primary School, a recent addition to the MAT, has benefited from this approach.

Our article will explore how alignment in priorities, data-informed decision-making, and transparent communication are instrumental in building strong relationships that drive consistent improvement.

Through this, we aim to provide “lessons learned” for MAT leaders and SIPs who are seeking to create an environment where headteachers are empowered and supported to achieve sustained success.
