Preparing for inspection: A complete Ofsted toolkit

Inspection
From the 90-minute phone call and subject deep-dives to Pupil Premium scrutiny, reading, and phonics, former headteacher Helen Youngman has created a range of toolkits to support schools through their entire Ofsted inspection. Emma Lee-Potter gets some tips from the three-times outstanding leader

Helen Youngman’s key aim is to inspire primary schools to achieve outstanding results for their pupils. A highly experienced practitioner with 22 years’ teaching experience behind her, she spent 16 years as a primary headteacher in London, Berkshire and Bedfordshire.

Her leadership was graded as outstanding three times by Ofsted so she is well equipped to support schools as they prepare for their own Ofsted inspections.

She set up her company, Helen Youngman Education, in 2015 and has since delivered practical training to heads and teachers at more than 3,000 schools across the UK.

She has developed a set of toolkits to support primary schools in their preparation for Ofsted inspection: “Hopefully the toolkits will take some of the pressure off when it comes to inspections by making it clear what’s going to happen and how you can prepare,” she said.
The resources range from curriculum deep-dive toolkits for different subjects to toolkits focusing on specific areas of practice, such as Pupil Premium, reading and phonics, SENCO inspection, and early years inspection.
