Called 1, 2, 3 Germ Free, the resources have been developed by academics from the University of Leeds with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
They use persuasive graphics and fun visuals, activities and learning materials to teach children about the importance of hand-washing to maintain a positive hand hygiene culture.
The visuals are based around using 1, 2, 3 when washing our hands:
- Super soap.
- Warrior water
- Dynamic dryer
Schools can purchase semi-permanent adhesive vinyl stickers from the university for a small cost, but all the designs are available to download for free.
Sink song: The resources include the sink song, which helps children to wash their hands for the recommended length of time
The vinyl stickers and graphics have been trialled at Ashby CE Primary School and Kidspiration Nursery and the tests saw soap-use go up by as much as 60%.
There are also free activity packs for use in classrooms and separate activities to be done at home. All the content has been designed to be in line with the UK school curricula.
