Dyslexia: Free online CPD training offered for teachers

A free, online dyslexia CPD course has been launched to help teachers support children post-pandemic.

It has been created by global charity Made By Dyslexia in collaboration with Microsoft Education and the training has been written and delivered by teachers at leading schools for teaching dyslexic children.

Tutorials are presented by teachers from Millfield School and Broadclyst in the UK and The Schenck School and Morningside Elementary School in Atlanta in Georgia, USA.

As many as one in five children have dyslexia yet 80 per cent will not be spotted during their time at school. The training is aimed at helping teachers and school staff to identify dyslexia and also gives them teaching advice.

The Level 1 training on dyslexia awareness will equip teachers with the essentials to "spot, support and empower" dyslexic learners, while the Level 2 course on dyslexia teaching will deepen understanding of dyslexia. The training also offers specialist strategies and solutions, showing you what to teach, why it helps and how to do it.

Made By Dyslexia’s recent Connect the Spots campaign and report reveals that 91 per cent of teachers have little or no understanding of dyslexic strengths. The Connect the Spots campaign is committed to the goal of training every teacher in the world in the next five years.
