No Room For Racism: New resources

Two professional footballers are starring in a new resource aimed at helping pupils to understand issues of equality and diversity and tackle racism.

The new resource, entitled This is Everyone’s Game – Black Voices, is suitable for key stage 2 and has been launched by the Premier League’s Primary Stars education programme.

It includes films starring Manchester City’s Demi Stokes and Liverpool’s Divock Origi, both in conversation with award-winning children’s author Sharna Jackson. The players discuss their upbringing and their own experiences of racism.

The new resource is available for free to primary schools in England and Wales via Premier League Primary Stars and forms part of the Premier League’s No Room For Racism initiative.

The resource contains activity worksheets and films on Black role models and discrimination. Learning outcomes include what diversity is and why it is important, the impact that racism can have on people, and why it is good to learn and celebrate Black history.

As part of the resources, pupils can enter a competition to design a poster to illustrate the “No Room For Racism” message and encourage others to challenge discrimination.

Ms Jackson, who has supported the Premier League in the creation of the teaching materials, said: "We need to celebrate Black role models and encourage far more discussion about heritage and diversity in the classroom and beyond. This resource has come at a critical time and allows us to all come together to talk about these issues. Demi and Divock, like so many footballers, are an inspiration. Their words will stimulate conversations about our family histories, cultures and heritage, wherever we are from."

Films starring other Premier League players will be added in coming weeks and cover their experiences of discrimination, the importance of “ally-ship” and the harm caused by online abuse.
