Bowes Primary School: Outstanding behaviour, social and character development

Pupils’ behaviour, social and character development at Bowes Primary School are ‘superb’ according to inspectors. Laura McPhee finds out how this has been achieved as part of inclusive approaches to nurturing children

Earlier this year, Ofsted consulted stakeholders on proposed changes to the inspection framework and its plan for a new report card-style system of judgement with – as things stand – five new judgement categories applied across at least eight performance areas.

There has been much debate over the plans, not least the proposals to include “inclusion” as one of the eight performance areas.

While professionals await the outcome of this consultation – now due in September – one thing remains clear: increased demand for high-quality provision and the need to support disadvantaged and vulnerable learners, including those with SEN, remains an urgent priority for leaders.
