Coaching: Rethinking how we manage our teachers

A new government is in power and, as we write this, it is hard not to notice a palpable sense of change within education.

In truth, it can’t come soon enough – as we know all too well the number of teachers leaving the profession has hit a record high – another 40,000 quit this year (see Headteacher Update, 2024) – and, according to Education Support’s Teacher Wellbeing Index (2023), the proportion of teachers feeling stressed has risen to 78%.

Solving some of the biggest challenges in schools right now will require a major rethink of how things are done, and this period of change feels like the opportune moment to do so.
