Schools and nurseries are being asked to take part and teach potentially life-saving skills to their pupils.
The week is run by road safety charity Brake and there are a range of resources on offer to support teachers.
The theme for this year – No need to speed – has been chosen after research carried out by Brake found that only one quarter of people think that vehicles travel at a safe speed on the road where they live.
On average, five people die every day on the roads in Great Britain and many more are seriously injured. Road crashes are still one of the biggest causes of death and serious injury among children and young people.
Free resources available for the week include lesson plans, assemblies, guidance for schools, factsheets, animated videos, activity sheets, colouring pages, postcards, props and posters, and fundraising ideas to help support Brake’s work.
For younger children, there is also Beep Beep! Day taking place on November 18. This offers further learning materials aimed at children aged two to seven and featuring characters from Aardman’s Timmy Time.
